Xiao Yan lived through a time when a great deal of transformation occurred in China. After a long training in the finest Beijing Art school, Xiao Yan expressed her emotions as a woman living in the 21st century, whilst nurturing components of traditions from 5,000 years of Chinese history.
Xiao Yan has now clearly embraced the theme of woman and her multiples relations and dimensions, displaying a variety of exquisite shapes and forms in how the female reveals and transforms in an exquisite and colourful way. Yan’s traditional stylistic brushwork and watercolours is a statement that the roots of Chinese culture is very much alive within her paintings, whilst simultaneously incorporating certain works with the current tastes for modern colours of bright blues, pinks, and purples.
