‘Red Forest’ by Niu Kai

‘Red Forest’ by Niu Kai

Born in Henan, PR China in 1966, Niu Kai lived through a time when free expression was tightly restricted and scrutinised in China. Despite this, Niu Kai graduated from Henan Art School in 1985 and Beijing Fine Arts School in 1991.

As the economic boom in China continued to grow, the environmental pollution worsened, and Niu Kai was very much aware of this. He felt compelled to do justice to the once beautiful landscape of China, and he showcases this in his artworks. Niu Kai embraces abstract forms in his art, whilst still staying close to his central theme: nature, seen in the variety of exquisite shapes, forms, and colours that his artworks portray.
